    You can book your own accommodation in Cairns and head out daily on the course to our classroom, pool, and Great Barrier Reef day trips. You will learn to Dive in just two classroom and pool training days, and two separate day trips.

    The Budget option is designed for you if you are short of time and want to learn to dive for the cheapest possible price. This option does not give the opportunity to sleep overnight on the reef. On completion of your 4 certification dives, you will get the opportunity to do one ‘fun dive’ (time permitting).

      Itinerary

      Day 1: Pool Theory

      9am: Check in at our Dive Centre at 319 Draper Street, Cairns. Meet your instructor, complete paperwork and begin dive theory.

      Lunch is not included, but you can bring a packed lunch or there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

      Afternoon: Begin your scuba skills training in the pool and complete your tread water test, finishing at approximately 5.30pm.

      Day 2: Pool Theory

      9am: Pick up from Cairns city accommodation

      Morning: Continue scuba skills in the pool and complete 200m swim test. Don your wetsuit and equipment for more skills training.

      Lunch is not included, but you can bring a packed lunch or there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

      Afternoon: Finish and review scuba theory, finish with a multiple choice exam.

      Day 3 and 4: Day trips to the Outer Reef

      8am: Check in and board AquaQuest at Cairns Marlin Marina for your day trip to the Great Barrier Reef

      8.30am: Set off on a 90 minute cruise to the outer reef, receive a briefing, then gear up and do your first training dive

      12pm: Fuel up with a hearty lunch

      12.30pm: Hit the water for your second dive to refine your skills, and practise your snorkelling skills at the reef’s beautiful shallow cays. After your fourth open water dive you’ll be a certified diver – congratulations!

      2.30pm: Cruise back to Cairns, arriving at approximately 4.30pm

      • Medical certificate if required. Ability to pass a 200m swim, and 10min treading water test. Dive medical to AS 4005.1 (if required). Once at Deep Sea you will meet your PADI Instructor, who will help you complete basic paperwork, and conduct a tour of our facilities. To ensure you don’t need a medical certificate, we collect basic medical information and check your BMI.
      • Currently, the rules state that for a single no-decompression dive, you should not fly/go to altitude for at least 12 hours. Multiple dives: 18 hours. Deep Sea Divers Den recommends waiting a minimum 24 hours whenever possible. These are guidelines only, there is no guarantee that these recommendations will prevent decompression sickness. Currently, there are no guidelines regarding diving after flying. Altitude is 300m/1000ft above sea level. This includes going to the Atherton Tablelands, so be careful when you are booking tours to follow your dive course/trip. Under normal circumstances, you should be out of the water on your last dive at 12 pm (midday).
