Visit Freycinet National Park in Tasmania
As you know Wineglass Bay is in Freycinet National Park. Freycinet National Park can be found on the East Coast of Tasmania. If you look at a map of Tasmania, go to the right and about halfway up and there you will find Freycinet National Park. It sticks out so it becomes a protected peninsula, which is why the bays in that area are just so fabulous.
The Freycinet Peninsula has formed over 400 million years. Two eroded blocks of granite known as the Hazards Mountains and Mt Graham/Mt Freycinet were joined by a sandy isthmus between the internationally acclaimed Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach.
As you drive into Freycinet National Park you are amongst big gum trees. Most of these are the Tasmanian Bluegum, silver banksia, and Drooping she-oak. So much flora in Freycinet National Park is native to Tasmania. We have over 500 species of plants in the national park alone. Between these trees on the drive into the park are small glimpses of the perfect secluded bays.
Coles Bay is one of the first you will spot. A little seaside holiday village Coles Bay is framed by the rugged pink-hued granite peaks of the Hazards mountains and the sheltered waters of Great Oyster Bay.
Once in Freycinet National Park you will see why this park is so well protected by the Tasmanian Parks and wildlife service. It is a wonder to behold.
Wineglass Bay is the most famous bay of them all in Freycinet National Park. Voted one of the world’s ten best beaches.
Is Wineglass Bay lookout worth it?
