Hobart to Launceston tour

After leaving Hobart we travel along picturesque roads through seaside towns of Orford and Swansea to arrive at Freycinet National Park.

There we walk to Wineglass Bay lookout, a moderate 45 minute hike that gets the heart pumping before revealing one of the best views in the Southern Hemisphere. Gaze out over treetops to a sweeping vista of white sand and turquoise water, soaking in the beauty of Wineglass Bay.

Depending on how active you’re feeling, you can extend your hike down to the beach for swimming, relaxing and dolphin spotting or return from the lookout with your guide to check out Honeymoon Bay, Sleepy Bay and Cape Tourville Lighthouse.

The afternoon brings us to Devil’s Corner winery, perched high on a hill overlooking Freycinet. It’s the ideal place to kick back with a glass of wine, fresh seafood platter, woodfired pizza, tea, coffee or artisan gelato before ending our day in Launceston.

Our tours are designed as full active days of fast-paced travel, we are also at times exposed to the outdoor conditions of the day.
On all tours, we offer a central city hotel or backpacker hostel pick up.
We do not offer a pick up from residential addresses or from Air BnB accommodation.
We operate small group Active Day Tours using Toyota Commuter and Toyota Coaster vehicles. These seat maximum passengers of 13 or 20 respectively.
We consider our tours to be active, visiting National Parks and wild areas focusing on the great short walks of Tasmania. Although most of the walks are classified as ‘easy’, a suitable level of general health and fitness and physical abilities is essential.
We educate all our guests on ‘Minimal Impact Bushwalking’ and the ‘Leave No Trace’ policy’s before entering our National Parks. We provide accurate interpretation and keep wildlife disturbance to a minimum by viewing from appropriate distances and informing our guests about how to treat wildlife with patience and respect.
You are able to bring one piece of luggage for storage during the day, and 1-day pack for use during the tour.
Guests should be able to load and unload own luggage. Main luggage will be stored in the vehicle trailer throughout the day. All gear needed for the day should be carried in a day pack onboard the tour vehicle.

What time does the tour start?

All our tours are scheduled to depart the city at 7.30am. Our first pick up is normally at 7.00am. Your pick up time will be confirmed at the time of booking depending on your hotel or hostel location.

Are any meals included?

We do not supply lunch, snacks or beverages on our tours, but we do stop along the way for you to purchase food to suit your budget and taste. This is usually a Bakery style stop in a regional town along the way to the main destination for the day. You will then be able to enjoy a lunch break during the tour day, usually somewhere scenic and suitable for a rest stop. However, if you prefer to bring your own snacks, please feel free to do so.

How much luggage can I bring?

You are able to bring one piece of luggage for storage during the day, and 1-day pack for use during the tour.

Not forgetting the abundance of wildlife, and incredible food and wineries. Both Hobart and Launceston receive daily flights from most Australian cities or you can catch the ferry from Melbourne to Devonport which is close to Launceston.

Weather in Tasmania

The weather is famously varied, with four distinct seasons (sometimes all occurring in one day!) The east coast is the dry, sunny, warm side of the island. Annual rainfall in the east is 600mm – less than half the annual rainfall in Sydney. Daily maximum temperatures in summer (December to February) are between +20 to +30 degrees Celsius. In winter (June to August) daily maximums are between +12 to +18 degrees Celsius.

The west coast is mountains, rainforest, and untouched wilderness. Annual rainfall in the west is 2000mm, helping to create the stunning wilderness of Cradle Mountain, Lake St Clair, and Mount Field. Daily maximum temperatures in summer are between +18 to +25 degrees Celsius. In winter the mountains look spectacular with snow on top and daily maximums are between +5 to +15 degrees Celsius.

How to get to Tasmania

You can fly cheaply from Melbourne and Sydney, so if you are visiting those cities be sure to add a hop over the Bass Strait to Tasmania. We recommend a 7-day tour to see the full wonders Tasmania has to offer. However, you could fly into Hobart for a few days and take our popular one-day tours to Wineglass Bay and Port Arthur.

Where to visit in Tasmania

When visiting Hobart do not forget to plan an afternoon at the fabulous MONA, Museum of Old and New Art. Mona is Australia’s largest private museum and one of the most controversial private collections of modern art and antiquities. Who says art has to be boring? The building is a work of art itself and the grounds are a delight to walk around in.
