Cape Tribulation
Take a tour to Cape Tribulation
Cape Tribulation is 110km north of Cairns in tropical North Queensland. It’s where the Great Barrier Reef really does meet the rainforest. Cape Tribulation is north of the Daintree river in the Daintree National Park.
‘Welcome to Kuku Yalanji country. The area you are travelling through has great spiritual and cultural significance to our people’ (The above statement has been specifically approved by local elders and was compiled by Mossman Gorge people for the Wet Tropics Management Authority)
In 1770 the explorer Captain James Cook struck a reef off the coast and subsequently named the area Cape Tribulation. The area is a lot more accessible to travelers these days. A number of hostels and small lodges are situated in the rainforest here, a short walk to the beach.
As we travel to Cape Tribulation we pay our respects to the 18 Rainforest Aboriginal tribal groups in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Daintree is now known as Kaba Kada – the rainy place. Kaba Kada identifies the rainforest that surrounds the sacred mountain Wundungu (Thornton Peak), which creates the rainy place.
On each tour we offer in this tropical region we aim to teach you about the history and culture of this region, including the true custodians of the land.
