Adelaide
Arrival guide in Adelaide
Adelaide is often referred to as the ‘City of Churches’. There are indeed some grand examples to visit in this city, that’s often thought of as a big country town. It’s a lot more sophisticated than its country feel, however. The city has a population of more than 1 million people.
Adelaide is known as a place that has excellent seafood, cheese and wine. Its early settlement was influenced by both English and European migrants, many of whom settled in the nearby Clare and Barossa Valleys with many Germans settling in the nearby town of Hahndorf.
Adelaide’s coastal location surrounded by the Adelaide Hills and exposure to the dry interior of the state of South Australia creates a feeling of relative isolation from the eastern states of Australia. Early explorers of central Australia began their expeditions from Adelaide north toward Alice Springs from Adelaide. Adelaide remains a hub for travelers venturing north to the Northern Territory, west across the Nullabor Plain to Perth, and east to the metropolis of Melbourne.
