For over 50,000 years, the Wadandi and Bibbulman people of the Busselton, Dunsborough and Margaret River areas of Australia’s south-west have walked this ancient land. Together with other Aboriginal groups from an area that stretches from Kalbarri to Esperance, they are also known as Noongar. The Noongar culture is as rich and varied as the countryside itself, and their knowledge of the environment is incredible and fascinating. On day two it's your opportunity to follow in their footsteps and experience Wadandi and Bibbulman country through their eyes. Wadandi custodian Josh “Koomal” Whiteland will introduce you to the world’s oldest living culture with his authentic, personal interpretation.
Take a visit to Ngilgi Cave with Josh beneath the limestone ridge which forms Cape Naturaliste, lies Ngilgi Cave; one of Geographe Bay's most renowned natural attractions. Learn more about the fascinating association with a rich Aboriginal legend describing the battle between a good spirit (Ngilgi) and an evil spirit (Wolgine) gives Ngilgi Cave its name. Be moved by the skill and intensity of Josh’s didgeridoo playing and fire-making, taste native foods, discover bush medicine and meet the animals, plants and Dreaming spirits that have enriched the lives of Wadandi and Bibbulman people since time began.
In Albany, we will take in the Field of Light: Avenue of Honour. The creative mind behind the installation is highly acclaimed artist Bruce Munro who will use 16,000 glass stemmed spheres to symbolise beauty, sacrifice, honour, peace and hope. This will be open to the public from October 2018 until April 2019.
We take you out to the famous Lucky Bay in Cape Le Grand National Park. This is where you can get a picture with a Kangaroo on the beach. The most perfect white sand you have ever seen with our native animal the Kangaroo hopping about and enjoying the view. Pure perfection.
