On the first night on this Flinders Ranges tour, we stay at Merna Mora its a popular tourist destination in the Wilpena Pound area of the Central Flinders Ranges. Merna Mora plays a vital part in the cattle and sheep station enterprise and offers a genuine and authentic experience for those wishing to escape and witness the outback lifestyle and atmosphere.
Day 2 you will visit the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary it is in spectacular, rugged mountains of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia's remote Outback. Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is set in a privately owned, 610 sq km property, in the stunning Northern Flinders Ranges, which has unique, geological, scenic and ecological significance. Here you can experience a scenic flight over the area (optional at additional cost) Or you can enjoy plenty of hikes from the Arkaroola wilderness sanctuary a mecca for bushwalkers and nature lovers.
Day 3 is your adventure day with Arkaroola's signature 4WD tour - an unforgettable encounter with the timeless terrain and unique natural beauty of the Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary. Travelling in a specially constructed open-top 4WD vehicle, Ridgetop passengers are taken on a guided tour of some of the most spectacularly rugged country on earth. Trained tour guides share their knowledge of Arkaroola's 1600-million year geological history as they navigate the steep slopes and hair-raising ascents of the famous Ridgetop Track.
Inspiring images of red granite mountains and golden spinifex covered hillsides give way to a breath-taking view across the Freeling Heights, Lake Frome and the desert beyond. Take in the 360-degree panorama as you enjoy morning tea at Sillers Lookout - a lofty pinnacle at the end of the Track.
Day 4 of your Flinders Ranges Tour explore the old woolshed (once one of the most important in the land), and the stone monument to explorer Ernest Giles, who set out on a death-defying journey from Beltana to Perth, Western Australia in 1875, one of Australia’s most famous pioneering expeditions. Then we head to Wilpena Pound for some bushwalking, trails range from the leisurely hour-long Drought Busters Trail to the 7km Wangara Lookout Hike.

Commence your wilderness journey heading north via the old coastal towns of Port Wakefield and Port Germein, which boasts the longest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. During the safari your Tour Guide will introduce you to a remarkable and resilient history of both Aboriginal and white settlement in S.A. Be amazed by the beauty of the Southern Flinders Ranges, 600 million year old mountain peaks and spectacular views over Spencer Gulf. Travel through picturesque Pichi Richi Pass to the historic township of Quorn. With its typical outback buildings and the original Ghan Railway station, Quorn has been the setting for many iconic Australian films. Follow in the path of our early explorers driving to Warrens Gorge Conservation Park to search for rare Yellow-Footed Rock Wallabies. Dramatic rock outcrops harbour these endangered wallabies with only an estimated 8,000 living in the wild. Sit back in our comfortable, fully equipped 4WD vehicle as we head along remote tracks through the deserted Willochra Plains where eagles soar and emus run free. This is an area alive with wildlife and boasts a remarkable geological history including Ediacaran fossils.
