A great tour guide can make or break your tour in Australia.

If you get along well with them, hear lots of fantastic facts and stories then you sure will enjoy traversing this vast country. The tour guide can help you bond with fellow travellers, get your head around our strange customs and language (thongs..?) and recommend the best places to eat and sleep after the tour is over. With the East Coast of Australia being such a vast area its important to have a guide with you to alert you to the changes in flora and fauna, the different historical events that shape each town and area and to take you to the best bars in town!

EVER WONDERED WHAT LIFE AS A TOUR GUIDE IS LIKE? WELL, DYLAN FROM LOKA LETS US IN ON A FEW SECRETS.

Picture spending your days in a different location almost every day. You start with a few drinks around a campfire in gold-mining country, sleep under the stars, and awaken to nature’s alarm clock of kookaburras.

Next, you’re sunning yourself on a sandy beach, the ocean beckons before you, blue and sparkling, and the breathtaking Whitsunday islands are just a short boat ride away. It’s a stress-free stay with sea salt on your skin and sand between your toes.

Letting it hang out on Magnetic Island2

Before you know it, you’re exploring the beautiful natural scenery of Magnetic Island. This is where the beach meets the rocky hills and hiking to the top rewards you with a 360 degree view of the forest landscape (as well as a possible cheeky koala sighting or two)!

waterfall

The very next day you find yourself in a beautiful rainforest. Cassowaries roam, bandicoots dart through the shrubbery, and your first stop is a refreshing dip in the fresh water of the Tully River. If you’re daring, a waterfall becomes your shower for the day. Your night involves some traditional indigenous cooking and a vast insight into the language, land, and culture of the Jirrbal people

Copie de Cape Tribulation rainforest3

You finish your journey in Cairns, where the Great Barrier Reef, the Daintree Rainforest, and Cape Tribulation sit at your doorstep. You can experience all three simultaneously with a skydive and enjoy Cairns’ nightlife afterwards as a reward. (And this is all just along the Queensland east coast)!

“But, Dylan,” you ask, “Don’t you get bored of visiting the same locations over and over again?” Of course not! Every experience if different and it’s all thanks to you guys; the travellers.

Every day is spent in the company of a bunch of unique, crazy, legendary explorers from across the globe. There are new languages to learn, cultures to enquire about, and a never-ending combination of personalities to create memories with. You meet people who become fixtures in your life, even after you’ve hung up the backpack and have returned to your everyday life. Experiencing beautiful locations with unforgettable people is my absolute favourite part of my job.

So, there you have it! I honestly believe I have one of the best jobs in the entire world. Maybe you should book that Loka trip and come and experience it with me?

I can’t wait to meet you! I’ll see you soon! Dylan, Loka guide.
